State Its Origin and Function

One of the first important Marxian conceptualizations of the state, William Paul’s The State: Its origin and Functions, was published in the same year as Lenin’s State and Revolution. The aim, in author’s own words, “was to show that a certain influential section of the Labour Movement has been using the term ‘State’ without clearly realising exactly what the State is, and the function it plays in social evolution.
