About the Book

Economic theorist and historian I.I. Rubin suggested a definition of political economy which has nothing in common with the definition of economics. According to Rubin, “Political economy deals with human working activity, not from the standpoint of its technical methods and instruments of labor, but from the standpoint of its social form. It deals with production relations which are established among people in the process of production”.

Isaac Ilych Rubin was born in Russia in 1886. He was an active participant in the Revolution and afterwards became a professor of marxist economics and a research assistant at the Marx-Engels Institute. He was arrested in 1930, apparently for having a close association with David Riazanov whom Stalin disliked. He was subsequently 'removed from among the living'.
