Inter-Religion Marriages in Indian Society

In a culture where large numbers of people continue to live in joint families, marriage is not just a bond between husband and wife. These kinship ties in India are strong bonds between families and kinship networks, arranged by parents within the caste and within the religious community. Inter-religion marriages, on the other hand, are love marriages, self-arranged and generally without the approval of the parents and society. Societal reaction to love marriages is generally one of disapproval and in the case of inter-caste and inter-religious marriages, the opposition is extreme, condemning such alliances for violating norms of religious endgame. This book studies the stakeholders of marriages, especially women and children, with respect to their acceptance by society. It analyses inter-religion marriages, a so-called secular-democratic society's reactions to them and the future of such marriages in the existing political scenario.
