Indira Jaising
Indira Jaising is a Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of India. She is Founder Secretary of the Lawyers' Collective and Director of its Women's Rights Initiative. She is Editor of the monthly magazine, The Lawyers. Jaising was awarded the Padma Shree in 2005. Her edited volume, Men's Laws, Women's Lives: A Constitutional Perspective on Religion, Law and Culture in South Asia, addresses the vexed question of how to achieve gender equality in personal laws while maintaining the right to freedom of religion and the cultural rights of minorities (Women Unlimited, 2005).
