About Author : 
Ashok Mitra has had a fabulous academic career, including a brilliant PhD under Jan Tinbergen, and he has held important offices in the economic administration of India; he was Chairman of the Agricultural Prices Commission and Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. He has taught in some of the premier institutions in India and academic work took him to many places of higher learning all over the world.

Ashok Mitra

Ashok Mitra is an Indian Marxist economist and politician. He has written for Economic and Political Weekly and contributes articles regularly to The Telegraph. He has also written short stories in Bengali.

His publications include China-Issues in Development, From the Ramparts, A Prattler's Tale: Recollections of a Contrary Marxist (which has also been published in Bengali as Apila Chapala).
